What to Expect
A person centred counselling approach enables you to find solutions to your own personal issues.
The client benefits from the therapist use of core conditions such as empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard; this allows clients to open up without fear of being criticised allowing the client to look at self, which enables the client to make appropriate changes. These are the conditions that support creating a positive environment for building a trusting therapeutic relationship.
Where useful and relevant, I combine a Person Centred approach with other styles to offer a pluralistic approach to counselling and therapy. These approaches may include:
- Cognitive Behavioural therapy helpful in overcoming negative thoughts.
- Psychodynamic therapy which will look back at a client’s past events and experiences and the effect these have on present thoughts and behaviours.
- Gestalt, an existential approach centred around your own key experiences.
- Transactional Analysis (TA) helps to explain why we think, feel or behave in a certain way.
These are all effective in helping people understand their problems and to being able to make changes to their life.
